 Application Assistant Information

The Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) depends upon people like you who want to make a difference and volunteer to become Application Assistants. An Application Assistant is a domestic violence or sexual assault advocate who has been designated by the respective agency or nonprofit program, and trained, accepted and registered by the Secretary of State.

As an Application Assistant, you will be helping victims of violence, sexual assault or stalking by providing information about the ACP program, determining whether the ACP should be a part of each victim’s overall safety plan, and helping people to complete and file their applications. A victim of violence may only become a participant in the ACP program through an Application Assistant's referral, so you will be vital to the process of protection.

How to become an Application Assistant

State or local agencies, law enforcement offices and nonprofit agencies that provide counseling or shelter to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking can apply to the Secretary of State's Office to become enrolling agents. These agencies then designate employees to receive training and become Application Assistants. Ceritification as an application assistant is for a period of two years. You must renew your certification at the end of the two years to continue as an application assistant.
