Tennant To Unveil New Business Friendly Initiatives In First Ever Remote Live Webcast

Martinsburg, W.Va. – West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant will unveil new business friendly initiatives here Thursday, and business owners along with citizens around the state and country can watch the presentation live on the internet.

The Secretary of State’s Office, which has often broken new ground with technology since Tennant came into office in 2009, will host the webcast from the Eastern Panhandle Entrepreneurship Forum live on their website at www.wvsos.com.

During Tennant’s administration the Secretary of State’s Office has launched a new user friendly website, posted videos that show the inner workings of government, reached out through social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Skype, developed electronic poll books, and hosted several live webcasts from inside the office.

The webcast Thursday will be the first ever live webcast from outside the Capitol. To watch the live webcast, click here.

A link to SOS LIVE, the live web channel, will appear at the top of the page Thursday morning and all a citizen has to do to watch the live webcast is follow that link. Watching the webcast is free and citizens will not have to download any additional computer software.

The live webcast is scheduled to begin at approximately 6:30 PM and last for about 20 minutes.

“The Secretary of State’s Office has shown that if the technology exists to make government more open and engaging, we will utilize it,” Secretary Tennant said. “It’s exciting to communicate with people around the state in a new way. You can be on your laptop at your kitchen table or on your desktop at work and see how state government is working for you.”

The new business initiatives consist of Certificates of Existence and Certificates of Authorization.

Business owners can now obtain those documents quickly and easily online. West Virginia is one of only 16 states that offer this service.

Customers will also have the option to purchase an official Certificate of Existence or Certificate of Authorization for any entity that is active and current under the law.

Each Certificate of Existence or Certificate of Authorization is $10 and customers must pay with a credit card.
