Registration Deadline For New Voters Is October 16

Charleston, W.Va. – The deadline for new voters to register to cast a ballot in the November 6 General Election is now just one week away.
Voter registration applications must be received by the county clerk or Secretary of State’s Office or postmarked by October 16.
Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant said today that new voters who register by mail to vote need to bring with them to the polls a current photo ID that shows their current address or a copy of a utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows your name and current address.
“This ID requirement only applies to you if this is your first time voting after you registered by mail to vote,” Secretary Tennant said. “If you have voted before, your identity is verified every time by your signing the poll book either at your polling place or at your early voting location.”
As of October 2, 2012 there were 637,893 registered Democrat voters in West Virginia, 354,593 Republicans, 1,345 Mountain Party, 217,585 registered with no party affiliation, and 23,041 registered with another political party.
Early voting begins on October 24 in West Virginia, and includes two Saturdays: October 27 and November 3. There will be no early voting on Sunday, October 28.
