Charleston, W.Va. – Curious voters and vigilant candidates will be able to watch portions of the final day of candidate filing live on the Secretary of State’s website at www.wvsos.com.
Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant said this is the first live webcast of its kind for the office.
A link to the live webcast will be on the front page of the Secretary of State’s website on Saturday, January 30. People watching the live webcast will see a shot of the Secretary of State’s conference room where candidates for House of Delegates, State Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and other offices have been filing since January 11.
The schedule for the live webcast on January 30 is from noon to 1:00 P.M., 5:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M., 8:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., and 11:00 P.M. to midnight.
“I have always promised open government and I can’t think of a better way to show people exactly what is happening at the Capitol,” Tennant said. “People who have never seen candidate filing before will finally be able to. Someone in Martinsburg can see exactly what a person in Mason is seeing. And it’s really exciting if a candidate wants to generate some interest by filing at the last minute. Now everyone can watch it happen.”
Right now, people can visit the Secretary of State’s website and see a list of candidates that is updated in real-time.
