Charleston, W.Va. -- Elections officials from around West Virginia are invited to attend the 2009 Elections Conference hosted by Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant's Office, beginning August 30 at Stonewall Resort in Lewis County.
Three days of activities are planned for attendees, beginning with a welcoming boat cruise on Stonewall Jackson Lake Sunday evening. Secretary Tennant will welcome the municipal and county clerks on Monday morning, before break out sessions covering a wide range of topics.
One special guest scheduled to attend on August 31 is Minnesota Elections Manager Gary Poser. During the 2008 general election Minnesota had one of the closest elections in history, between incumbent U.S. Senator Norm Coleman and democratic challenger Al Franken. Poser is scheduled to speak beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Other scheduled presentations include an up close look at the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS) with Dave Tackett, IT Manager with the West Virginia Secretary of State's Office; a presentation from Dave Thompson of the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles; and a presentation from Amber Kroening of the West Virginia Secretary of State Investigations Unit.
The registration fee for the conference will be $200 per person, payable to the WVSOS - Conference Registration by July 31st. This fee includes breakfast, lunch, and refreshments during session breaks, parking, and some amenities at the resort. Some of the amenities at the resort include swimming, paddle boats, canoeing, fishing and more. This fee does not include lodging. The room rate for single occupancy is $99 and $59 for double occupancy per room per night plus local tax.
