County Certification Complete; Manchin Sworn In As United States Senator (Video Included)

11/15/2010

Charleston, WV – Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant verified that all counties had completed their canvass and the appropriate paperwork sent to the Governor Joe Manchin to certify the US Senate election.

Secretary Tennant and Governor Manchin signed the certificate proclaiming that Joe Manchin III was elected a member of the Senate of the United States.

Manchin will now present this paperwork to the Secretary of the US Senate so he can be sworn in on Monday, November 15th.

Secretary Tennant had asked counties to expedite the canvassing and certification process in accordance with the law to meet the Monday deadline so West Virginia can have more seniority than other Senators elected November 2nd.

“From start to finish of this unique circumstance and election we have met every demand and expectation for a fair and open election," Tennant said. “The Secretary of State’s office, county clerks, and county commissioners all worked hand in hand to meet the high standards West Virginia voters deserve.”
