Charleston, W.Va. – Tens of thousands of business owners will file annual reports with the Secretary of State’s Office over the next several months, with more and more of them taking advantage of online filing.
On the first day of the filing period this year, nearly 1,500 annual reports were filed online using the website www.business4wv.com.
That’s an increase of almost 200 over the first day of filing in 2011.
In an effort to encourage quick and easy online filing and to provide cost savings to the State of West Virginia, the Secretary of State’s Office emailed notifications to the more than 30,000 business owners who filed online last year. Email notifications about online filing were sent to an additional 30,000 business owners who have email addresses on file with the Secretary of State’s Office. The Office is also mailing post cards to the remaining 26,000 business owners in the state informing them of the filing period and encouraging them to file their annual reports online this year.
“Filing online is quick and easy,” Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant said. “I was a small business owner and I know how tough it is sometimes to take time-out during a work day and finish paperwork. Filing online allows a business owner to file their annual report when it is convenient for them. It’s available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
The Secretary of State’s Office has also produced a short tutorial video that takes a business owner through the online filing process step by step. That video can be seen on the Secretary of State’s website here.
The annual report filing period began January 1 and ends June 30.
