 2014 Candidate Filing Period

 Where to File

Candidate filing will take place at the West Virginia Secretary of State's Office for the following offices:

  • U.S. Senate
  • U.S. House of Representatives
  • State Senate
  • WV House of Delegates
  • State Party Executive Committee
  • Greater Huntington Parks and Recreation District Supervisor

Candidate filing will take place at each county clerk's office for the following offices:

  •  County Commissioner
  •  County and District Party Executive Committee
  •  Board of Education
  •  Conservation District Supervisor
  •  Unexpired Terms for Vacant County Offices

 How to Complete your Candidate Filing

For a candidacy to be certified, a candidate must:
  • Submit a completed Certificate of Announcement to the proper filing officer
  • Have the Certificate of Announcement properly notarized
  • Have the Certificate of Announcement submitted within the dates designated by state law
  • Pay the required filing fee a the time of filing

Failing to have a certificate of announcement notarized, not having sufficient funds for a filing fee or filing late are all grounds for not certifying the candidacy. Please be aware of all relevant dates and deadlines.

 When to File

The time period for candidate filing, as designated by West Virginia State Law, is January 13-25, 2014. Candidate filing will be available during regular business hours at each filing office. On the final Saturday of candidate filing, January 25, the West Virginia Secretary of State's office will be open until midnight (12:00 a.m.) to accept filings.
