This Year’s Online Business Filings Nearly Doubled Over Same Period In 2011

Charleston, W.Va. – The number of business owners who have filed their annual reports online in 2012 has nearly doubled over the same time period last year.
From January 1 to February 9 of this year 10,245 annual reports have been filed online using the business portal www.business4wv.com. During the same time period last year, 6,198 annual reports were filed online.
    That’s an increase of 4,047.
“Business owners are seeing how quick and easy it is to file their annual reports online,” said Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant. “Not only are we offering this capability, but we are also doing as much as we can to help answer questions they may have about filing. We want business owners to spend as little of their valuable time on paperwork as possible so they can get back to running their business and keeping our state’s economy strong.”
The Secretary of State’s Office offers a live online interactive chat helpline that allows business owners to talk one on one with a business and licensing specialist. The helpline feature is available from 9:00 to 11:00 every weekday morning and from 2:00 to 4:00 every weekday afternoon. Hundreds of business owners have logged on and gotten quick answers to their questions since the chat feature launched in December of 2011.
There is also a tutorial video that takes business owners through the online filing process step by step. This four minute video has been watched nearly 1,000 times since it was posted to the Secretary of State’s website on January 6.
“Some other great things about filing online is how quickly you can get everything finished, and that it’s on your schedule,” said Penney Barker, Business and Licensing Division Manager. “After paying the filing fee you will get an email notification when your filing has been accepted. You don’t have to wait days for your filing to arrive in the mail. And you can file 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We know business owners don’t always have time to sit down during the day and file this paperwork, and it’s convenient for them to be able to do it whenever they get the time.”
The filing period ends June 30. Last year 28,640 annual reports were filed online at www.business4wv.com.
