Secretary of State’s Interactive Business and Licensing Online Chat Named Finalist For National Award

1/28/2013

Charleston, W.Va. – The interactive online chat feature offered on the Business and Licensing Section of the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office website has been named one of four finalists for the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) IDEAS Award.

The IDEAS Award recognizes Innovation, Dedication, Excellence, and Achievement in Service. The winner of the award will be announced during the NASS Summer Conference being held in July in Anchorage, Alaska.

Established in 2011, the NASS IDEAS Award recognizes significant state contributions to the mission of NASS, as well as honors the outstanding programs and achievements of NASS member offices. Nominations are encouraged in all areas of state government programming that is overseen or administered by Secretary of State or Lieutenant Governor Offices throughout the United States.

All of the nominations can be viewed on the NASS website by clicking here.

“This is wonderful recognition for the forward thinking and business friendly attitude that we have in the Secretary of State’s Office,” Secretary of State Natalie E. Tennant said. “From making it easier to file an annual report online, to our On The Road events where we bring services directly to the business owners of our state, to this now nationally recognized online chat feature, we are leading the way when it comes to keeping the economy strong in West Virginia by helping business owners focus on their product and not paperwork.”

The online chat feature can be accessed by logging on to the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office website at www.wvsos.com and clicking on the Business and Licensing Division tab. The online chat is available Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 11:00AM and from 2:00PM to 4:00PM. A business owner can be connected one on one to a Business and Licensing Specialist in the Secretary of State’s Office. The online chat feature for these business owners means that they do not have to pick up the phone to get in contact with a Business and Licensing Specialist in the Secretary of State’s Office. They can simply log on to our online chat, ask their question, and get an immediate response.

Thousands of business owners have accessed the online chat feature since its launch in December 2011. There is no cost for a business owner to use the chat, and Secretary Tennant said it’s possible that the hours that the chat is available might soon be expanded because of high demand.
